L.A. Compost began in 2013 with the collective efforts of volunteers, friends and family, as a bike-powered food waste diversion service. Now, LA Compost has 8 community compost hubs all throughout L.A. County. These hubs range from schools, museums, and community gardens. Each hub reflects the community in which it’s located but they all serve the same purpose. They keep organics in the community and they create a shared space where individuals can come together to learn and ultimately be a part of something bigger than their individual self.
Fantastic Fungi is a feature length documentary by award winning film-maker Louie Schwartzberg that is currently in progress. We invite you to join this film project as we explore the amazing networked system that lives beneath our feet and is responsible for moving energy, decomposition and some argue perhaps even the evolution of human consciousness.
The Soil STory
Climate change is a symptom of a elemental cycle out of balance. The way we manage land and do agriculture offer us an opportunity to rebalance the carbon cycle by supporting plants capacity to bring excess carbon back down from the atmosphere (where it’s destabilizing the climate) into the soil (where it restores water and nutrients and feeds the life there). As The Soil Story tells us “carbon is not our enemy, it’s the building block of life everything alive is made of it. It’s us! The problem and the solution are a simple matter of balance.”
